Carbon tetrachloride is an organic compound with the chemical formula CCl4. It is a colorless liquid with a “sweet” smell. It is not flammable at lower temperatures and widely used in fire extinguishers, as a precursor to refrigerants and as a cleaning agent. Its other names include tetrachloromethane, carbon tet, Halon-104 in firefighting, and Refrigerant-10 in HVACR.
